Early last week, a hotel located just around the corner from our office in Lancaster came to us with some exciting news that they believed they had found some historical remains of Lincrusta!
The Royal Kings Arms Hotel, situated in the heart of Lancaster, was originally built in 1625 and then later rebuilt in 1879 – only two years after Lincrusta was established, it could have been some of our very first works!
It is clear from the pieces of Lincrusta found, that it is in fact our Gothic Dado panels! After some digging through our archive and historical books, we found that the Gothic Dado was featured in books dating back to the late 1920’s and the early 1930’s.
Although it is impossible to tell how old this Lincrusta is as there are no dates written on the remaining pieces, they are likely to be almost 100 years old! The RKA Hotel has had the pieces framed and they will be placing it in their reception area for guests and members of the public to view – if you’re ever in the area, it is definitely worth a look!
