We are often asked about historical designs and if they can still be purchased. As many of the steel rollers used to produce Lincrusta were melted down during the two World Wars, it is not possible to reproduce rolls of old designs. It is, however, possible to recreate original designs and replicate in damaged areas with our restoration kits. These can be used to make an impression of an existing Lincrusta pattern and recreate it in another area up to 1 square metre.
Made from a plaster-of-paris compound, this allows the damaged design to be replicated and decorated to match perfectly, whilst being flexible enough to be used on curved as well as flat walls and ceilings.
How wonderful to think that a wallcovering that may have been there for over 100 years could still be enjoyed for generations to come.
One special project where this technique was used was at Delapre Abbey in Northampton. Many of the rooms featured Lincrusta including this beautiful organic design which was beautifully restored for the abbey's re-opening.
