In July, our team ventured into the Trough of Bowland for a country pursuits team-building exercise, and we had an absolutely fabulous time! Driven Clay ensured we had a wonderful experience while pushing us out of our comfort zones. As passionate as we all are about Lincrusta, talking shop was banned as we learned a new sport and new skills together in the beautiful countryside setting of our Lancashire home.
After our exhilarating start, we began our day with a hearty breakfast at the Applestore Cafe, where we met our wonderful instructors: Chris, Sean, Jo, and Mick. None of us knew quite what to expect, so chatting with them over a Full English put us all at ease and built excitement for our day on the fell! Once we had our breakfast and copious amounts of tea and coffee, we set off in convoy to a stunning location overlooking Lancaster and Morecambe Bay; we could even spot our office, factory, and some of our homes!
With ear defenders and glasses on, we split into smaller groups and soon reached our shooting positions. Jo, Sean, and Mick guided us on how to hold the gun and prepare for the release of the clays. Although we all hoped to be sharp shooters, it took a while to get comfortable with the gun and the trajectory of the clays. However, we quickly found our rhythm. Fun was the aim of the game, and everyone shot at least one clay—some even managed two clays with one shot!
Between each round, we gathered back at the hospitality truck for some much-needed refreshments on a beautifully sunny day. Our skills improved throughout the day, leading to relaxed and enjoyable discussions about our varying experiences. Before heading back to the Applestore for a late lunch, we took a moment to soak in the sunshine, enjoy a few gins, and share plenty of laughter.
By the end of the day, we boarded the minibus home—hot, tired, and a little sunburnt—but filled with joy and camaraderie, eager for our next adventure together.
